Light is life. Your flame burns down. When it dies the dark starts eating your mind. Refill with lamp oil, or press E beside a burning wall sconce.
Mind drains in darkness and near many creatures. Low mind means you see things that are not there, and you take more damage. Holy water and light bring it back.
Breath is spent running and returns when you stop. You cannot outrun everything.
Loot is picked up by walking over it. Rarer pieces glow brighter.
Waystones stand near the entrance of every depth. Wake one and you can travel back to it — and to the Sanctuary, where the merchant, the vault, the trainer and the forge wait. Nothing hunts you there.
Every fifth depth holds a guardian. The stairs down stay sealed until it falls.
Death costs half your gold and part of your experience. Your gear stays with you, and the crypt gives your flame back.
You are not alone. Others on the same depth fight beside you and share the experience.
There is no way back up the shaft you fell through. There is only down — or the waystone.
